# How to cite an Authorea document

If you want to cite an Authorea document, first check if the document you want to cite has a DOI.

1. **If the document has a DOI,** it will show a citation box. If this is the case, the document is accesible via the Authorea citation tool normally. Click **cite** in the toolbar and find it, via text search or DOI.

2. **If the document has no DOI**, it can be cited as a link (click the **link** button in the toolbar). Alternatively, if you really need to cite it as a bibliographic source, you can crete a citation manually from the Authorea link.
