# How do I delete a citation or a reference?

In order to remove a citation from one of your documents, simply position your cursor after the citation and press backspace/delete. The reference linked to the citation will also be removed from the bibliography at the end of the document. (See Gif below)


| **Note 1**. Still cannot remove a reference from the bibliography? It is possible that you (or a collaborator) has selected the **Show all references** checkbox under **Document Settings** (under the cogs menu ⚙️ in the toolbar)



| **Note 2**. Please remember that Authorea works best in Chrome and Firefox. If you are having problems deleting content in Safari, consider switching to one of these two browsers.
